Increase your self-esteem by deliberate compensation (1 minute read)

Here the post “Increase your self-esteem by  deliberate compensation” continues with how you can increase your self-esteem by managing your thoughts and feelings.

Increase your self-esteem by deliberate compensation:

There are several more mature defense mechanisms than the ones suggested by the psychiatrist Vaillant and which have been the topic of the last posts.

One of them is compensation. Compensation is when balancing a perceived weakness by emphasizing strengths in other areas.

This helps us recognize that it is impossible to be strong in all areas, and that practice is necessary to excel in an area.

This can occur consciously:

IA person who cannot cook may focus on setting the table with great effort or claiming the importance of doing the dishes.

IIOr when compensating insecurities talking in front of an audience by excelling in written communication, hence drawing attention to an area of strength.

When done in an appropriate way, this can help us reinforce our self-esteem and self-image.
