As mentioned in earlier posts, one of the characteristics of feelings is that they each correspond to behavioural and motivational impulses that are important for our survival and for signaling our human needs to us.
Panksepp has identified three types of major emotional systems with different functions. These three systems are based on research on emotions/feelings.
The third system is the soothing, contentment and security system that brings peacefulness to the self.
This system aids in restoring inner balance and helps the body and mind to recover from the other two systems.
The system is driven by among others the feelings and states harmony, joy, satisfaction and peace.
