Increase your self-esteem by responding to unhealthy shame (1 minute read)

This post “Increase your self-esteem by responding to unhealthy shame” continues with how you can increase your self-esteem by listening to your feelings and heal self-destructive shame.

Increase your self-esteem by responding to unhealthy shame:

One way of reducing self-critical shame is to become more self-compassionate.

Last post was about positive consequences of healing destructive shame. Here are some more:

– Improved ability to notice your boundaries

– Better at saying no and talking back to demands from people in the surrounding as well as to the internal critical voice: “It is human to have boundaries, to need to rest, to make mistakes, to make others disappointed. It is part of being human. I will not place higher demands on myself than what I have on other people”

– More accurate interpretation of situations: not blaming oneself disproportionally or misinterpret situations to own disadvantage.

– Improved ability to view social situations more from an outside perspective, realizing that negative and destructive behaviors from others do not have to be about you, but about their own problems.
