Increase your self-esteem by understanding supportive fantasies (1 minute read)

This post “Increase your self-esteem by understanding supportive fantasies” continues with how you can increase your self-esteem by managing your thoughts and feelings.

Increase your self-esteem by understanding supportive fantasies:

Last post was about immature autistic fantasy that is used to flee difficult situations. This post is about using fantasy in a more mature way such as when visualizing goals and success for example in daydreams.

Imagining that one is successful may lead to feelings of success even if the reality is the opposite.

Sometimes this can be healthy as when the fantasy acts as a rehearsal for future success.

Many self-help methods are based on fantasy, for example affirmations, exposure visualizations in therapy or practicing empathy of self and others.

Fantasy can also be a part of the problem as when imagining the worst consequences. This can increase fear and anxiety. Reliving a traumatic situation may lead to difficult feelings, anxiety and depression if not done together with an experienced therapist.

Next post is about the main differences between immature fantasies and healthy fantasies.
