How The Acutal Relationship Impacts Feedback & Emotions

Our relationships affect our ability to take care of and calm our emotions as well as impacts our self-worth.

We are all differently sensitive in how well we accept feedback and hence the possibility of developing a relationship.

There are many dimensions that impacts this:
– The emotional and mental state of both
– The mental flexibility of both
– The actual situation
– The status of the relationship

Today I will expand on the actual status of the relationship.

This depends among other things on how close we are to the other person and also what happened in the most recent encounters.

An important dimension is how important the other person is and is expected to continue to be to us.

Also, we have preconceptions and expectations that we tend to read into the situation in order to protect us from surprises.

In addition, how we choose to express our views impacts the relationship.

This in turn depends on whether we had a pleasant time last time we met or if we had a disagreement.

The gentler and more careful we express ourselves as well as the more questions we ask, the more likely we can get a positive – or at least less negative – outcome from the encounter.

More about how to develop our relationships, feelings and emotional life in coming posts.
