Additional Important Dimensions For Self-Esteem At Work

Self-efficacy can improve self-esteem. The necessary characteristics for optimal self-efficacy changes during life mirroring the different competencies needed to function well.

Last weeks’ posts hint important dimensions we can add to our lives to increase our self-efficacy, namely, the importance of:

-Curiosity

Exploration and play

– Role models thinking and behavior

The learning environment

Today continues on the theme Self-Efficacy Concerns of Adulthood

Last weeks’ posts have been about how young adulthood puts new demands related to forming partnerships, parenthood and work, all where a firm sense of self-efficacy is an important contributor.

Our self-efficacy and beliefs concerning our abilities during child partly determines how well we develop the cognitive, self-management and interpersonal skills important for work-life.

Even more importantly, psychosocial skills are more important to career success than technical skills. Developing coping capabilities and skills in handling own motivation, emotional states and thought processes increases perceived self-regulatory efficacy. The higher the sense of self-regulatory efficacy, the better one functions at work.

Also, the technological development place an increasing weight on higher problem-solving skills and resilient self-efficacy to cope effectively with new work approaches and possibly reorganisations.
